POSITION SUMMARY

Stratolaunch is a technology accelerator that engineers operationally realistic testing at Mach 5+. Our air-launched, Talon testbeds are reusable, cost-effective platforms that enable routine access to the hypersonic environment. We deliver flight data critical to validating system performance and achieving rapid technology deployment. Together with our customers, we drive innovations that are imperative to advancing national security.

 

To help achieve these efforts, Stratolaunch is seeking an Sr Systems Engineer to support the integration and testing of the Talon-A hypersonic vehicle onto the Carrier Aircraft. This position is responsible for guiding Talon-A vehicles through all vehicle-level subsystem tests and combined system tests with the Carrier Aircraft. This position requires the development and organization of test objectives, an ability to understand complex subsystems and their interactions with other subsystems, a strong testing background and mentality, and the ability to evaluate what should and shouldn’t be tested and why. Candidates must have an aerospace development background and relevant experience in aerospace systems integration.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a group of test owners and responsible engineers to carry Talon-A through functional ground testing
  • Determine the appropriate sequence and order of tests to minimize the test schedule
  • Develop and track requirements and test objectives for a vehicle
  • Author, review, and approve test plans for each discipline or subsystem
  • Organize Test Readiness Reviews (TRR’s) and Data Reviews
  • Determine the appropriate regression tests when the vehicle changes configuration
  • Support flight test in the Mission Control Center, as required
  • Regular and comprehensive communication to your lead
  • Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems
  • Travel, as needed, to support the department
  • Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of, and direct experience with, subsystem or vehicle-level test planning and execution
  • Experience leading teams to prepare for major ground and/or flight test events
  • Experience authoring test plans and organizing data reviews
  • Ability to assess technical risk and communicate any residual risk to the program management team
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
  • Complex aerospace system development
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Liquid rocket engine and/or propellant feed system test experience
  • Avionics, electrical, and/or data system test experience
  • Security clearance

 

Required Computer Skills:

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Sr Level ($104,000-$155,000): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 5-10 years of engineering experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Travel, as needed, to support the department. Travel estimated to be <5%

Mojave Air & Spaceport is located 95 miles north of Los Angeles. To outsiders it may seem like it is the middle-of-nowhere, but it offers both affordability and central access to a variety of California’s best attractions and landmarks. Hikers will find themselves within a 2-3 hours distance of some of the best state and national parks, including Yosemite and Sequoia in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Food and drink fanatics are in a haven of delectable choices. Wine aficionados will also find easy access to some of the state’s best vino in Paso Robles, Santa Ynez, and even more locally in Tehachapi and Agua Dulce. Beer fanatics will find some of the best West Coast IPAs at Bravery and Lucky Luke’s in Lancaster. Any food option you crave is covered, and we always recommend the authentic and fresh Mexican food that you won’t find anywhere else in the United States.
