LEAD INTEGRATED AVIONICS ENGINEER

Based out of Rocket Lab’s global headquarters in Long Beach, the Lead Integrated Avionics Engineer is responsible for leading the Neutron Integrated Avionics (US) team in supporting the development, integration, and testing of avionics systems on the Neutron launch vehicle through first flight and beyond. This new team will also play a crucial role in the successful transition of Neutron from a development program to an operational vehicle. 

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO: 

  • Work across multiple avionics domains including Electrical Power Systems, Flight Computers, Networking, Harnessing, Remote I/O Interfaces, Flight Termination, Data Acquisition, Sensing, Actuation, and Control 
  • Work closely with other Neutron technical teams and stakeholders across multiple sites, including counterpart avionics teams in New Zealand 
  • Provide direct avionics design and testing support to the US-based propulsion and fluids systems teams in meeting their subsystem avionics requirements 
  • Work with manufacturing engineers to facilitate the production and testing of new and existing avionics components for Neutron 
  • Create and implement plans and frameworks for the transfer of people, information, and hardware across borders 
  • Plan and execute launch vehicle avionics integration activities 
  • Lead, mentor, and train a team of Avionics Engineers at all levels 
  • Support, and at times lead, launch vehicle integrated avionics troubleshooting activities 
  • Support, and at times lead, the transition of new avionics subsystems to pad operations 
  • Contribute to the development of engineering and business processes, including engineering and test processes, as well as other business processes to support Rocket Lab growth and capability 
  • Contribute to the development of engineering best practice areas such as test, design for manufacture and engineering change 

 YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS (Note: you must meet every qualification in order to be considered): 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or other technical degree
  • 5+ years of experience with avionics hardware development and/or the integration and testing of electrical systems 
  • Understanding of electrical test equipment, test procedures, data acquisition systems, and instrumentation 

 THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE: 

  • Master’s or PhD in electrical engineering, or other technical degree
  • Understanding of designing hardware from concept through production 
  • Hands-on experience with launch vehicle avionics systems 
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering methodologies
  • Experience in launch vehicle operations 
  • Project/program management skills 
  • Previous management or leadership experience 

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. 

In addition to base salary, Rocket Lab offers a comprehensive total compensation package based on individual qualifications and experience, which may include cash or equity incentives. Employees will also be eligible for medical, dental, vision coverage, 401(k) retirement plan options, and to purchase discounted stock through Rocket Lab’s Employee Stock Purchase Program.

Base Pay Range (CA Only)
$135,000$160,000 USD
